The problem
A creator copies a script that is selling hard on one serum and shoots it on a different serum. The lines are the same. The delivery is good. The hook number is nearly identical. It sells nothing.
Old direct-response funnels lived or died on one rule: the ad, the landing page and the offer had to say the same thing. They called it scent. You click an ad about back pain and land on a page about back pain. Break the scent and people leave, even if the page is good.
A TikTok Shop video has the same rule, and it breaks in the same places. Your hook says something like “this is why your skin looks tired at 3 p.m.” Everything after it has to be about tired skin at 3 p.m. The body. The product. And when they tap through, the product page has to look like the thing that fixes tired skin at 3 p.m.
When the chain breaks, you see it in the funnel:
| Where it breaks | Leak at | What the viewer thought |
|---|---|---|
| Hook promises one thing, body talks about another | Payoff | They came for the promise and it vanished. |
| Body builds a case, CTA sells something else | Click | Wait, that's not what this was about. |
| Video says one thing, product page says another | Convert | They tapped, saw a page that didn't match, and backed out. |
So before you brief a next version, ask one question: what is the one idea this video is about? Say it in a sentence. Then check every part against that sentence. Hook, body, CTA, product. If a part doesn’t serve the idea, cut it.
The example
Back to the copied script. The first serum’s big idea was “your skin looks tired by afternoon.” The script is built around that idea, line by line. The second serum is a night repair product. Nothing about it fixes a 3 p.m. problem. The hook still stops people, the body still holds them, and then they tap through to a product page about sleep. The scent breaks at the product page, and Convert leaks.
That is why copying a winning script onto a new product can fail even when the script is great. The script’s big idea was built for the first product. If the second product doesn’t solve that problem, the chain breaks at the last link.
The same check works before shooting. Write the one sentence, then read the product page. If the page cannot say the sentence back to you, the video will leak at Convert no matter how good it is.
Do this in Verdict
- 1Open Waves. A wave is one big idea that many creators are riding at once. When you see one, you are seeing an idea the market already said yes to.
- 2Read the wave’s constant lines. Those are the idea. Ride it, but keep the idea whole from the first second to the checkout.
- 3Before you point a wave at a new product, check the product page against the idea. If it doesn’t match, that product needs its own idea, not this script.
